Sixth Form at BIAM
Your Pathway to Global Universities Starts Here
At British International Academy Marrakech (BIAM), the Sixth Form marks the beginning of the final and most transformative stage of a student’s secondary education. Spanning Years 12 and 13, this post-16 programme offers students the opportunity to specialise in subjects aligned with their academic strengths, career ambitions, and university goals.
Students who have completed their IGCSEs at BIAM—or an equivalent international programme—can choose to study for A-Level qualifications, the internationally recognised standard for university entry.
Sixth Form at BIAM is built on the English National Curriculum – Key Stage 5, with an emphasis on academic rigour, critical thinking, and independent learning. It’s a time when students deepen their knowledge, take ownership of their learning, and prepare for life at university and beyond.
Studying A-Levels at BIAM
A-Levels are advanced subject-based qualifications that universities across the UK, Europe, North America, and the rest of the world recognise and value. These two-year courses culminate in external exams taken in Year 13, which play a key role in university admissions.
Students begin by selecting three to four A-Level subjects in Year 12, and may take an AS Level in one or more subjects depending on their academic track. The curriculum is delivered by specialist teachers, often using dual-teaching models in subjects like English and Maths to offer different teaching approaches and enrich understanding.

At BIAM, students sit examinations through the internationally recognised Edexcel International A Levels (IAL) examination board.
Choosing the Right Subjects
A-Levels require dedication and a passion for the chosen subjects. They are more challenging than IGCSEs and demand greater independence and self-discipline. At BIAM, we provide individual academic guidance to help students make informed decisions based on their interests, strengths, and intended university pathways.
Tip for students:
If you have a future career or degree in mind (e.g., medicine, architecture, law), it’s essential to choose subjects that universities require for those fields.
Frequently Asked Questions
Subject choices are made in consultation with our Sixth Form Coordinator and academic advisors. We guide each student through the process based on their IGCSE performance, career aspirations, and personal interests. An options form and individual meetings ensure informed, thoughtful decisions.
Most students select three to four A-Level subjects in Year 12. This allows for balanced academic development while leaving time for independent study and extracurricular involvement.
After submitting your preferences and completing a consultation, we confirm your final subjects at the start of Year 12, typically after reviewing your IGCSE results and evaluating subject viability based on class sizes and scheduling.
We review each case individually. If you do not meet the standard entry requirement of 5 IGCSE passes (grades 9–4), you may still be offered a place with a modified programme or be advised to retake key subjects. We aim to support your progress, whatever your starting point.
Changes can be made within the first few weeks of Year 12, provided there is space in the new subject and the timetable allows. We encourage open dialogue with staff to make sure your choices continue to align with your goals.
This is possible in exceptional cases and is usually reserved for students with outstanding academic records and a strong work ethic. It must be approved by the Head of Sixth Form and may require additional support and monitoring.
Yes. A-Level results are essential for university admissions and often requested by employers as proof of academic achievement. They form part of your official educational record and are critical to your future opportunities.
